horror: an intense feeling of fear, shock, or disgust.

American horror is usually synonymous to a small list of stereotypes associated with the country’s movie industry. Perhaps that is the reason why American artists seem to give much emphasis on the shocking and disgusting part of their horror. This trend has led to a relatively monotonous approach to the visual aspect of the experience. Monotone city landscapes, thick outlines, mostly human shaped monsters. Even when done well, at some point this style gets tiring.

Why am I mentioning all this? Because I love it when I see individuals going out of the genre’s cliches and trying their own thing out. Crystal is one such artist who has a very clear vision of where she wants to lead her work. Can horror be found in cute, non-human colorful figures? Can cuteness be found in disturbing gore? Everything has its own fee: An Interview with Team Galanx

As regular readers of our blog might have noticed, the majority of the guests in our “Interviews” column have been individuals. In a world where technology offers a wide array of options to artists it’s to be expected that a great many of them would prefer to work alone, completely in control of their product, instead of finding others with similar interests. Team Galanx, the people responsible behind the release of the Konstandin demo, are a great example of what is achievable with team work. It’s not an everyday occurence to come across an indie title that looks like a triple A production, especially in the RPG Horror genre. Fear of flesh and blood: Revisiting Silent Hill

Introduction

As a little boy I remember being deeply in love with video games, dedicating a great amount of time to them, day and night. From the various games I tried, there are only a few cases I remember as clearly as the first time I played Silent Hill, a 1999 classic developed by Team Silent (TS) and Konami. Just by seeing the blurry cover with Alessa’s pale face I knew this would be the perfect introduction to a horrifying journey.
