2014: 9th day of Animanga


There are certain genres that are always tough to adapt in anime form. Sports and Musical anime are perhaps the best examples of that category, yet Fantasy doesn’t feel so far away. By Fantasy I mean settings that resemble medieval legends and/or worlds like that of Tolkien. Looking back at shows like Record of Loddoss War, Shaman Princess and Kemono no Shouja Erin one can find some good titles that unfortunately share certain weaknesses (lack of action, budget problems, etc.) and lack a sense of fun and epicness. The best shounen ever. That was a common phrase we heard from way too many people, most of them of completely different tastes, before we started watching the series. Brotherhood’s reputation is beyond words. Even the people who did not fell in love with the show still thought of it as very good, especially in comparsion to the rest of the genre. Armed Librarians: The Book of Bantorra

Book of Bantorra has a great premise: a library collects books containing the memories of the dead. There’s also an enticing mystery regarding the true nature of the library; larger than life characters; and overall, it’s simply a lot of fun seeing what crazy things the characters will do. Volken and that ant guy are two of my favorite characters from any anime. ~ draggle

This series got placed 8th in draggle’s top 30 anime, his description sounded there was something good waiting and so we gave it a chance.  Continue reading

Vampire Princess Miyu

Until a month ago, when we started writing our list for “12 days of Christmas”, Vampire Princess Miyu was not even on the map and, at first, it seemed as if she had no chance to get it, mostly because the four OVAs we watched were rather bittersweet -not lame, but not great either. And that’s when we started the TV series that aired during the late 1990s and I found myself in love with yet another great retro series. Continue reading
